THE NATURAL STEP LAUNCHES SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT PROJECT WITH KINKO'S

Dallas, Texas – August 21-22, 2003. Team Members from The Natural Step delivered the first sustainable procurement seminar to the Global Sourcing Group at Kinko's and received very favorable reviews.

Kinko’s, a leader in copying, document creation, and document management, is one of the most recognizable brands in the US. Kinko’s is also the largest purchaser of cut paper in the world. Through their use of products such as inks, toner, computers and paper, the company’s impact on a number of critical resources is significant. For this reason, integrating sustainability requires a critical examination of their supply chain, how it functions and how it is sourced. The Natural Step will continue to work on these issues, building on the initial seminar and engaging with the Global Sourcing Group on their strategy for 2004.

The seminar also served as part of an ongoing “road test” for new methods of The Natural Step’s framework. The Natural Step will continue to revise and market this methodology to other F500 procurement groups, such as The Home Depot and McDonalds.
